Find answers and general information quickly about marketing contacts in HubSpot.
In HubSpot, you can set certain contacts as marketing and others as non-marketing to control the number of contacts that count towards your contact tier and who your users can and cannot market to.
Contacts with the Marketing Status property value set to Yes are eligible for certain HubSpot marketing tools. They will also count towards your contact tier. By default, all users have the permission to set contacts as marketing. Learn how to remove the permission for a user.
When the property value is set to No, they are non-marketing contacts. Non-marketing contacts cannot be used with those marketing tools and will not count towards your contact tier.
You may not have access to marketing contacts, even if you have a Marketing Hub subscription. To check if you have access to marketing contacts:
If you don't have access to marketing contacts but would like to, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager.
HubSpot will send you notifications as the count of marketing contacts approaches your contact tier limit. You can also view your count of marketing contacts at any time in your Account & Billing page or with a dashboard report.

You can set a marketing contact to be updated to a non-marketing contact anytime, but the update will not be reflected on your bill until the next update date. Learn how to monitor your marketing contacts and how to prevent a contact tier upgrade.
To find your next update date:
Please note: even if the number of marketing contacts you have is below your contact tier, your contact tier will not be downgraded to the next contact tier. Reach out to your HubSpot Customer Success Manager if you've any further questions on your contact tier.
Once the number of marketing contacts exceeds your current contact tier, you'll automatically be upgraded to the next contact tier and will receive a pro-rated charge the following day.
